Workshop Fabrication Manager (Rotherham)

Working on behalf of our client, we are recruiting for a Production Manager to join a specialist engineering contractor delivering mechanical installation projects across the UK Water & Wastewater sector. Due to continued growth and an expanding project portfolio, they are looking to appoint an experienced Production Manager to lead their fabrication workshop and play a key role in supporting the next phase of the company’s development.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Production Manager to take full responsibility for the day-to-day running of the fabrication workshop, ensuring the safe, efficient and timely manufacture of bespoke fabricated components used on water and wastewater projects throughout the UK.

You’ll oversee the entire production process, from goods inwards and material control through to fabrication, quality inspection and dispatch, ensuring all work is delivered to the highest standards while meeting project deadlines.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has successfully managed a fabrication or manufacturing workshop and is passionate about improving processes, developing people and implementing industry best practices. Working closely with senior management, you’ll have the opportunity to shape the workshop’s future as the business continues to grow over the next 12–18 months.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day operations of the fabrication workshop.
• Oversee goods inwards, material control and stock management.
• Plan and coordinate workshop production to meet project delivery schedules.
• Lead, motivate and develop a team of welders, fabricators and apprentices.
• Ensure fabricated products meet customer specifications and quality standards.
• Manage workshop resources, equipment and materials efficiently.
• Implement best practice manufacturing processes and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation, company procedures and workshop standards.
• Lead the workshop through annual quality management audits and maintain compliance with quality systems.
• Coordinate the preparation and dispatch of completed fabrications to site.
• Work closely with engineering and project teams to ensure smooth project delivery.
• Monitor workshop performance, productivity and quality, identifying opportunities for improvement.

Requirements

Essential

• Previous experience as a Production Manager, Workshop Manager or Manufacturing Manager within a fabrication or engineering environment.
• Strong background in steel fabrication, welding and manufacturing processes.
• Experience leading workshop teams, including fabricators, welders and apprentices.
• Proven ability to implement production improvements and best working practices.
• Strong understanding of Health & Safety within a manufacturing environment.
• Experience working within quality management systems and supporting external audits.
• Excellent planning, organisational and communication skills.
• Ability to prioritise workloads and deliver against demanding project deadlines.

Desirable

• Experience supplying fabricated products to the UK water and wastewater industry.
• Knowledge of stainless-steel fabrication, structural steelwork, pipework or process equipment.
• IOSH or NEBOSH qualification.
• Experience working within ISO 9001 accredited environments.
• Forklift or lifting operations knowledge.
• Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience.

What’s on Offer

• Salary up to £60,000, depending on experience.
• Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm.
